November 2024
A significant number of updates courtesy of Mike Day, from the late 70s/early 80s. Mostly, documents and scripts :
- Several additions to the Annual Awards page. Voting forms from 1978/79/81/82 and five winners' certificates.
- Additional publicity material from A Fistful of Dossers and Dark Side of the Lune.
- Two additions to the general memorabilia from Fanfare For The Common Cold.
- Deeply incestuous "reviews" of Spar Wars, by two people who just happened to be members of the cast (probably from Lonsdale JCR mag).
- Very short review of A Fistful of Dossers from the Lancaster Guardian. Actually, more of a teamsheet.
- Original running order for A Fistful of Dossers.
- Initial drawings for the Australian Wildlife sketch, from Spar Wars.
- Candidate drawings for the "Bert Lion's Big-Catalogue" poster, which was printed and sold in an effort to raise funds for Edinburgh 1978.
- Two rehearsal schedules for The Road To Morecambe Pier, including a bomb-threat to non-attenders from Alistair. Well, there's motivation and then there's intimidation ...
- More recruitment documents. The 1978 Student Guide entry, plus the 1983 and 1984 Soc Baz leaflets.
- Two classified ads for Lancashire Hot Pot, from the Edinburgh Evening News. One is a Classic ad, also promoting the X-rated "Come Play With Me" and "Finishing School". Oh the joys of performing in a grubby soft-porn cinema.
- A letter sent to the press, encouraging reviewers to come and see Lancashire Hot Pot (nearly all of them didn't) and to look kindly on us (none of them did).
- Membership cards circa 1980.
- Notes regarding the running order for A Fistful of Dossers have been updated, on the show facts page.
- Scripts for Campus Walkabout With Jesus (Fanfare for the Common Cold), Julius Caesar and Bog Panel (both from The Road To Moreambe Pier) added to the sketch database.
- Script and updated info for "Orangutan" (a.k.a. "The Ourang-Outang") from Lancashire Hot Pot and The Road To Morecambe Pier.
- Nine new scripts from Ten added to the sketch database, nearly completing the set for that show. Specifically: French Song, Middle East, Nature Ramble, Newspaper Seller, Roget's Thesaurus, Shakespeare, Sherlock Holmes meets Jeremy Thorpe and Trumpet.
- Scripts replaced for both War and Peace and Miracle, as performed in Ten. The accompanying notes for the W&P Ten script have also been rewritten.
- Sketch database entries updated for following Ten sketches : Puritan Mealtime, Cathy & Clare, Cossacks, Celtic quickie and Nelly of Aquitaine.
- A detailed list of Kick The Squirrel performances during 1979-83.
- Nameplate from the shared Theatre Group/Revue Group office !!
March 2024
- Flyer for Socks & Violence (Edinburgh 1989), from Mark Oswin.
- Socks & Violence cast/writers corrected.
- Edinburgh 1989 recollections of "Socks & Violence" added to the History page, courtesy of Mark Oswin.
- Photo of recently rediscovered ripped "punk" T-shirt and armband, as worn by Johnny Bloody Awful in the Doctor Who sketch, in Nuns and Lovers (1977).
- Photos from a London 2017 meet-up.
- Nine more photos from Ten (1986 reunion show). Not great quality, but a few nice subjects.

- An explanation of "The Friends of Sheepy Sheep" show title added to the History page.
- Winning The Title Race, a memoir on competitive revue title selection.
November 2022
- Two photos of A Fistful of Dossers (1980), from Liz Cruwys.
- Performer info for "Cathy and Clare" and "It's The Thought That Counts" added to sketch database. Thanks to Tim Stevens and Alistair Gault.

April 2021
- Preview of Ten, from the Summer 1986 issue of The Lancaster Graduate, the journal of the LUGA.
- Private rehearsal of Ralph and Frances added to the Left Handed Screwdriver Show recordings, courtesy of Tim Stevens, who says: The reason I go "oh shit" right at the beginning is because the block corridor phone rings just as we were about to start (you can hear it if you listen carefully). Arguably the funniest bit of the sketch...
- Improvements to the comment facility. Members can now edit their own posts and a summary of recent comments is available.

- More contributions from Tim Stevens:
November/December 2018
- Various bits from Tim Stevens:
October 2018
- Left Handed Screwdriver Show recording speed fixed. Fragments from an alternative copy of the original show recording have revealed that the commonly distributed version of the show tape was about 10% too fast. The recording has been digitally corrected accordingly. A missing recording of Tim's Sundew (instrumental) has also been added to the Screwdriver audio.
- The History/Timeline page has been updated with respect to the 1987 Edinburgh revue, based on a contemporary report from Keith Macdougall, who saw the show with fellow founder member Richard Russell.
- Some of the photos from the kids charity shows (1978) have been renamed, based on information from Alistair and the original script for the pantomime.
- Yet more Golden Mouldies photos, courtesy of Keith. Now over 60 GM related pictures. Possibly LURG's most photographed show?
- Various photos from Keith of the 10th Anniversary reunion. Appropriately, ten new photos of Ten, plus six photos of various members leaving Bailrigg the following day.
- An interview on 18/Nov/1977 has been added to the list of STS appearances, along with a picture of the video tape it was recorded on.
September 2018 : Major Site Update
Numerous additions, originating from the recently recovered scrapbooks:
- Nuffield programme entries for each of Free Tenth Unit, Golden Mouldies and Nuns and Lovers
- Various Free Tenth Unit memorabilia: Title candidates, numerous production documents, a scrapbook article by Jon Edwards and treasurer's report (a profit!).
- Letter to Scan plugging Free Tenth Unit.
- Second Free Tenth Unit running order, with more detailed cast list.
- Tim Stevens' verdict on The Free Tenth Unit.
- Agendas/minutes for meetings which chose producer and title of Group's 4th and 5th revues.
- A Day In The Life of a Revue Hack. Chris Mapp chronicles the day When The Boot Goes In opened.
- George Green's thoughts on his production duties for When The Boot Goes In.
- Several production documents from Golden Mouldies.
- 17 more Golden Mouldies photos.
- Lancaster Guardian ad for Golden Mouldies.
- Transcript of URB review of Golden Mouldies by Alison Coles.
- Keith's summaries of reaction to Free Tenth Unit, When The Boot Goes In and Golden Mouldies.
- Chris Mapp's verdict on the County summer 1977 show.
- Ad for County End of Term Extravaganza (1977).
- Letters relating to Edinburgh 1977: LURG joins Fringe Soc, Dec 1976 and first letter re Vomit Hall. Interesting to note that the hall's charges jumped from a £9/£6 split to a flat rate of £10, in the space of just 3 weeks (inflation was running at about 16% in 1977).
- Annual awards moved to their own page. Two 1977 award certificates added, plus results of several other early awards.
- The recording dates of several URB/STS appearances in 1977 have been identified and the Audio : Miscellaneous page updated accordingly.
- A new STS page details a number of early LURG appearances on student TV, along with assorted memorabilia.
- LURG v URB 1977 football match report.
- Scripts for Scott 3 and Evangelical sketches from A Fistful of Dossers (1980) tucked away in the back of the 1976 scrapbook.
- Schizophrenic news sheet from the Burton/Sandles era, June 1980.
- 1981 and 1982 Societies Bazaar recruitment leaflets.
- Response to letter, published in Scan, panning Rodrigo Borgia Invites (1982).
- The beer mats Puritan Mealtime was written on. Ideally, these belong on the sketch database, but for now they are located on the Dark Side Of The Lune memorabilia page.
- Last Mike Savage newssheet, late 1982.
- Publicity material from Shame (1983), including a flier/poster, Nuffield programme entry and a Lancashire Evening Post article promoting the show, featuring a photo of 11 group members.
Thanks also to Tim Stevens for the following:
- 1978 "Best ham" and "Worst backstage help" award certificates, plus 1980 awards voting form.
- Producer application letter, for Edinburgh 78.
- Two Nuffield letters re The Road To Morecambe Pier.
- Invoice from John Angus for Fanfare For The Common Cold posters. (Note: John's music concert posters have become very collectable. See the excellent When Rock Went To College book by Barry Lucas and Paul Tomlinson. The jury is still out on the value of used LURG posters.)
- World Cup song lyrics, with annotation from Edinburgh 1978.
- Overdue account reminder from Media Services for slide projector used in Lancashire Hot Pot. Interesting to note that it's addressed to "Dawson" Wakefield, of "Review" Group, c/o "SRC" (he'd graduated and gone several months earlier). Wonder if they ever got paid?
- Lists of members, on a new Membership Lists page.
And from other sources:
- Major new Sketch Database. 470+ sketches/performances and nearly 200 original scripts, so far.
- Contrary to previous assumptions, a newly uncovered document suggests there was no 1992 Nuffield revue, implying that the Group probably ran out of steam after Iota, in 1991. History, show list and unanswered questions pages amended accordingly.
- A previously overlooked ad-hoc Lonsdale intro week (1978) performance has been added, including running order and scribbled casting notes.
- Ten early 1980s photos from John Freeman, including three from what appear to be Shame rehearsals, three more from a bowling challenge and four miscellaneous.
- Gloucestershire reunion photos, 1996.
- Various photos added to the "miscellaneous" collection, mostly from the (now defunct) Ruby Revunion site.
- Barber shop quartet photo added to Fanfare For The Common Cold set.
- News sheet re 1976 Christmas dinner.
- News letter and voting form (!!) regarding 25th anniversary reunion in 2001.
- Fanfare For The Common Cold running order/cast list.
- Keith's costume list from Can We Have Our Money Back.
- Minutes of LUSU meeting, May 1977. Exec takes a dim view of appeal for cash for Edinburgh.
- Report on Edinburgh 78, from Fulcrum (Oct 78).
- The quality of the show audio recordings has been improved. (For the nerds: The mp3 bit rates have been increased from 64 to 96kbps.)
- More membership lists.
- Rehearsal news sheet for the 1977 County disaster.
August 2018

March 2018
- Kick The Squirrel summer 1982 tour bus mileage log, courtesy of Vincent Jones.
January 2018
- Venue, date and ticket info for The Friends of Sheepy Sheep (1990). Also updated the group history regarding the same show. All courtesy of James Bland.
- Another poster advertising the first meeting on 28/Jan/1976. That fanfold computer printout was so useful. Thanks to Keith for this one.
November 2017
- New In Memoriam pages commemorate members who have passed away. Add your own tributes or recollections.
- An Unanswered Questions page has been added, under the Contribute menu. This collects appeals for specific information, previously posted as forum topics (the forum has been removed, due to lack of use). Can you provide some answers??
- Another personalised badge on the Haley's Vomit memorabilia page, this one from Keith. There must be at least a dozen more out there! Send pictures to .
September 2017
- A pair of photos added of founder members Richard, Keith and Paul in 1976 and 2016. Spot the difference.
August 2017
- Several items added to the Haley's Vomit memorabilia page: Evening News front page from 31/Aug/1977, Fringe Society advice, Vomit Hall correspondence, opening/closing notes from the revamped Thunderbirds script and a note from our Joppa landlady.
- Front page of the 1977 Fringe Programme plus our entry in the 1977 Fringe Guide, added to the Haley's Vomit publicity page.
July 2017
- Kojak Columbo rehearsal audio. Historically significant as the earliest extant LURG rehearsal recording, circa Feb/Mar 1976. Also, the only recorded version of this sketch, as it was in the "lost" first half. Thanks to Tim for this terrible recording of a terrible sketch.
- Alternative recording of the John and Mary sketch, made backstage during performance of Can We Have Our Money Back. Better quality than version from the main show tape, which suffers from use of amplification (the performers were off-stage). Again, from Tim.
- Free Tenth Unit audio, re-recorded from the original performance reel-to-reel tape. Significantly less tape hiss than previous version, which originated from a 2nd or 3rd generation cassette copy.
- A Spring 1989 Nuffield programme has been found, including an entry for what would be The Fish They Couldn't Hang. Confusingly, the programme lists it as both "Revue '89" and "Revue '88". It also provides the performances dates, which were previously unknown.
- Three photos added from Edinburgh 1978.
January 2017
- To mark the group's 41st anniversary, a recording of the very first meeting on 28/Jan/1976.
- Poster and review of Dark Side of the Lune (1981), care of Neil Sedley.
